Unix shared hosting plans now available!

Banana Hosting is proud to present its new range of Unix-based web hosting plans. Over our three years in business as a Windows only host we have received many requests for Unix hosting, and now here it is! Using powerful FreeBSD Unix servers and a feature-rich control panel, we are sure this latest addition will match your expectations of a Banana Hosting plan. Click here for more info.

The benefits of a Unix plan is the support for Contrab: the ability to schedule the execution of files, and support for multiple sub-ftp accounts, as well as support for special perl or php mods that are available only for unix server.

Host of month at hostsearch.com!

A big thank you to all our customers who posted a review at hostsearch.com. We were awarded host of the month for May for getting the highest reviews, 3.99 out of 4! We also received 9.97/10 at webhostingjury.com and are currently listed number two of all time!

Here is a small unedited extract from the Hostsearch newsletter:

HostSearch.com is proud to present Banana Hosting with the Host of the Month award for May.

During the past 30 days visitors to HostSearch.com have given Banana Hosting a rating of 3.99 out of a possible 4.

Other web hosting directories are paid by web hosts to give out awards but HostSearch.com reviews are 100% user driven. We promise that our reviews, good or bad, are unfiltered. We investigate any complaint by web hosts or users on fraudulent reviews and remove them if they are found to be illegitimate.

Here is what some of our reviewers thought of Banana Hosting:

Valerie Woodhouse; “I've used quite a few hosts in my time but Banana Hosting is by far the best!! Support is phenomenal! If you're looking for quality hosting with support that's 2nd to none then Banana Hosting is for you!! 10/10 for everything here!!!”

Scheduled Maintenance cp.bananahosting.com 3/21 and 3/22

At 12:30 AM EST or 7:30 GMT Monday Morning (March 21, 2005), the Control Panel will be taken down for approx. 3 - 6 hours while we run a full vacuum on the database. This is basic maintenance that must be done to keep H-Sphere's database running at top speed. This is also being done for the upgrade.

At the same tome on Tuesday Morning (March 22, 2005) we will be taking the CP down to upgrade to the latest H-Sphere 2.4.2 Patch 3. The CP will be down until the upgrade is done; this should take approx. 3 - 6 hours due to a backend database upgrade that must be done for the upgrade. This will fix a few bugs with the system and should make it more stable.

Scheduled Maintanence Tuesday March 1, 2005

At 12:30 AM EST or 05:30 GMT Tuesday Morning (March 1, 2005), the CP will be taken down for approx. 3 - 6 hours while we run a full vacuum on the database. This is basic maintenance that must be done to keep H-Sphere's database running at top speed. The last time this took about 5 hours, but we have removed a LOT of old and bad data so this time should be a lot shorter. I am hoping for around 3 hours or less. This maintenance will NOT affect your websites, emails or databases, only the control panel will not be accessible during this time. Sorry for the inconvenience,

09 February 2005
Scheduled Maintanence : NT3, NT7, NT14, NT16 NT31

On Saturday 2/12/05 at 2am ET or 7am GMT we will be performing maintenance on NT3, NT7, NT14, NT16 NT31. We will be running CheckDisk to clear up any errors and also running a system defrag to fully optimize the system and registry.

We will do NT3 first as it's been having more issues than the others. If all goes well on NT3 we will start the other 4 systems immediately after NT3 is finished. We will do the other 4 systems all at the same time.

Total down time will be anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on how bad the system might have gotten over the years. This is something we will be doing to all system over the next 2 months to make sure they are all running at peak performance.

Sorry for the inconvenience but it will mean faster servers.

Restructuring of plans and prices for 2005.

New prices and plans for 2005. In the light of the success we have had in 2004 we have decided to restructure our plans and prices for 2005 and can now offer further value for money. Banana Hosting always strives to provide value for money by offering plans at fair prices for a fair amount of resources and features, yet still provide the excellent support that our customers have come to expect.

Banana Standard 300 has been replaced with Banana Standard 500.

  • Now with 500MB space and 5 GB traffic per month.
  • Database quota is shared with web space and email.
  • $0.1/mb for SQL databases has been eliminated.
  • Every account can initially host 3 domains instead of 1 for free.
  • Banana Standard 500 is now $18/month or $172.8/year (20% discount).

Banana Lite 50 has been replaced with the Banana Lite 100.

  • Now with 100 MB space,
  • Database quota is shared and included in the 100MB.
  • The New Banana Lite 100 is now $36/Year.

The following plans have been removed:

  • Banana PRO 900 has been discontinued. Current accounts will not be affected.
  • Banana Fusion MX 300 has been discontinued. Current accounts will not be affected.

These changes provide larger plans and the introduction of shared database space to eliminate the extra cost of running SQL databases. Current customers on any of the replaced or discontinued plans are not affected by any of the price changes. These account have their prices locked for the near future.

Thank you for choosing Banana Hosting and good luck with your online ventures in 2005!

Banana Hosting is forced to raise prices in 2005

The ever weakening US Dollar against the UK Pound and Euro is forcing us to raise our prices as of the new year. Current customers have their prices locked for at least 6 months if not longer. The new prices will be announced sometime in January and will be accompanied with increased resources on each plan, so it's a win-win situation. Sign up before the changes to lock in your price.

Upgrade: PHP 4.3.10 , PHPbb 2.0.11, Apache 1.3.33, Zend 2.5.7

All NT servers are now upgraded to PHP 4.3.10. We will also be upgrading the windows boxes to H-Sphere 2.4 P6 to get the updated phpBB in there for new installs and will be looking at upgrading the CP to 2.4 P6 as well so users can upgrade there current phpBB to the new version from the CP. Otherwise they need to do it by hand. **Any users using phpBB 2.0.11 or lower are subject to a known security vulnerability and should upgrade ASAP** We are currently upgrading PHP on the unix systems. We are upgrading Apache to 1.3.33, PHP to 4.3.10, Zend to 2.5.7 and phpMyAdmin to 2.6.1-rc1. All the other systems should only take about 5 to 10 minutes per machine to upgrade.
